Silva marginata of the Xylomyidae, a family closely related to Stratiomyidae. I have noticed before that flies will of come indoors though open windows and then end up on other windows when they want to get out again.

Thanks Paul, There's another specimen sitting on the ceiling of my balcony right now. Are they attracted by flowers (Philadelphus is blooming beneath my windows) or rather associated with trees? |

Larvae are found under the bark of dead tress, often very common under the bark of poplar.
