Hi, one of todays best finds in the Bukk mountains is this ~ 2 mm long fly above a sall brook, on a falln tree. This has really interesting mouthparts. Looks a bit like Phyllomyza which I first tought for a Carnidae. But smaller.

There's a drawing of long-mouth Milichiidae on page 317 of Contribution ... of Palaearctic Diptera 3. My fly resembles Paramyia hungarica Papp but has lnger vibrissae for example... Can someone check it? |

Hi, I made some images using image stacking. The head looks like this, not exactly like Paramyia hungarica. The fly is 2 mm or a bit smaller. |

Hi, this is a female of Neophyllomyza acyglossa, see http://milichiida...-acyglossa or for a map and comprehesive catalog see http://160.45.63....e529dc9a50. In Paramyia crossvein dm-cu is missing (see http://milichiida...n/paramyia). The larvae of N. acyglossa develop in dead wood. Irina

Thank You very much! I learned a lot! For example, Fauna Europaea lists Madizinae and Milichiinae, and Phyllomyza is in Madizinae. Now I see these kind of flies belong to a separate subfamily. Second: I read that this fly is cleptoparasitic with Asilids. Wow, would like to photograph that  3: It is recorded from Europe and Mongolia, must be an otherwise common but rarely ound species. 4: The english name for ths family is freeloader flies Te hungarian name Pakosztoslegyek means literally gluttonous flies  Thank You again for the ID, if you know the owner of the homepage, I would be happy to let my photos be used on the site, if needed.
