Hello, In July this year I caught a male Merodon in southern Germany with a combination of characters I can not find in van Veen 2004: -legs completely black, only knees leg 1 and 2 pale, -small, 9,5mm, -tegites completely unmarked, -trochander 3 without protuberance. I do not have a proper macro lens, so the pictures are poor, but I hope they still will help. Anybody any idea? Sander |

If you found it in the mountains, it is right that Van Veen doesn't mention it because the book doesn't cover the Alpine area. I don't know this species... would need it to make any ID.. Hope someone else here can help you based on a picture! |

I caught it some 100 km north of the alps. On the forum of waarneming.nl I met Gerard Pennards who is willing to identify the ones I cann't. So I hope that somewhere during upcoming winter this fly gets a species name.... greetings, Sander Edited by sanderbot on 31-08-2009 21:16 |
