Hello flyforum, This fly, about 7mm in size was on a bark of a conifer. M1-vein (black-lined) is sharply curved and wingpatterns are black with some braun/yellow. Maiby this is Tachinidae sp.? greeting Robert, Edited by Robert Heemskerk on 11-07-2006 19:56 |

It is a rhinophorid (as close to Tachinidae as you can get), perhaps Paykullia maculata. This is another family which a much richer fauna in Central Europe in comparison with our northern one and there may be some look-alikes I'm not familiar with.

Like Kahis, my first guess was Paykullia - long petiole plus shading along the wing veins are a good guide.  |

Thank you Kahis and Chris for your comments. It is nice to know about this specie. In the Netherlands we have (in the dutch sp.database); 1. Paykullia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 [geslacht] 2. Paykullia maculata (Fall?n, 1815) [soort] So, Kahis suggestion, Paykullia maculata is 'perhabs' right! I will see if I can find some more of these on that place. I can confirm this is P. maculata, recognised by the dark wing pattern and the yellow base of the wing. In Zeegers & Van Veen's key the fly is included under the name Chetostevenia, which is a later synonym of Paykulia. Louis |
