Moscow region, 12 july, around 10mm. Regarding Tabanidae as my natural enemies, I collect it without pity. Nice group. By the way, this year with unusualy hot weather in Moscow, there are no cows in the fields, only early morning. Between 9-10 cows run home and refused to go out because of violent Tabanidae attacks. Both Chrysops has light window on d cell, but I think that both have to regard as "all d dark". In this case 1-st Ch. pictus 2-nd Ch. relictus? Am I right, please? Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

Hi Nikita Yes, I think you are right with your identifications, but the correct name for C. pictus is C. viduatus. In C. relictus the dark mark in the middle of the second tergite is variable in shape, and can be larger and more "V-shaped" than your specimen. Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |

Thank you Tony. So, in Moscow region now 3 species is common: Ch. caecutiens Ch. relictus (all with very "modest spot on T2) Ch. viduatus (with obviosly longer proboscis than other species) Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |
