Hi Andre

highly astonished I'm - but that's healthy I heard :-)
And happy too: two new howerflies.
So much different howerflies so late in the year! It's a pity that they are not sitting on their normal "plants" :-(

Could you give me a description of the difference between jugorum and rupium please?
If it cause not to much effort?

Thank you! Brigitte

Andre
jugorum has long, reddish hairs on the thorax. The tergites have dull front and hind margins and shiny middle.
rupium has an all shiny abdomen, which is very clear on this picture.

But in both cases you photographed very typical specimens. Sometimes the identification can be very difficult, especially when photographed.

Thank you very much Andre,
for all Eristalis and all help and infos you spent on me and my pics . . .

Andre
Just like dipdip, I wouldn't mind if you collected also. I'd be happy to identify them for you, if you sent them to me. It's good for me to learn more about Alpine species (still a lot to learn for me!). Smile
And it's good for the knowledge of Alpine species, if more people would study diptera over there Wink
