July 17, 2006. Size 11mm. Flew around me much like some Tabanus around a cow (caught 3 specimens). |

Looks like a male Eurithia sp. to me, which is good because the genitalia on this group are very large and distinctive. Can you hook-out and photo the genitalia and let us see those? ![]() ![]() |

Ohh, I thought that one would be easy... Well Chris, maybe I'm ready to deal with genitalia, but I need some basic instructions, first, how can I tell a male from a female?... |

Look at the tip of the abdomen from underneath - the males of Eurithia will have a large chitinized capsule and if you are careful, while it is still soft, you can lever out the surstylus so that it is more visible. It doesn't need a full genitalia preparation - just do enough so that you can see the shapes of the large bits. |

Well Chris all of the three were males. Finally I managed to fix the position through a lot of picking with pins. So I hope this would help. |
