This species was quite common in May in broad leaved forests. I saw many flies which looked quite variable, but I suspect all of them belonged to the same species, and the differences were just between males and females, and dute to the wearing off the golden hair. |

This is a female of Pandivirilia, possibly melaleuca, but I don't know which other species occur in Hungary. The larvae of this genus are found in rotten wood. Incidentally M.E.Irwin - the international therevid expert - is no relation. We just share a family-name and fascination with stilleto flies. ![]() Tony ---------- Tony Irwin |
