syrphidae / stratiomyidae ?
Robert Heemskerk
Hello flyforum,

In the afternoon I found this fly.
It look's like syrphidae to my first impression, but perhabs it is stratiomyidae..
There was no much time, I got attacked by Tabanidae..
So I have to do with these few (not so good) pictures..

- I see colourlines on the eyes
- end of the thorax is pointed
- waist is thin
- I cannot see any spines at the back of the sculletum.

Is it syrphidae sp.? or perhabs stratiomyidae?

I can use some helpShock

Expecting it is from the Netherlands, I would agree. Still, I am wondering about the blackish appearance. From what I know of this species, it is usually much more metallic green. In this specimen there is relatively little green...

The blackish appaerance probably is caused by the flash of the camera(or by the sun).
At my pictures of P. alceae I see the same : The fly is much darker then I saw it through the lens.

Hi Ben,

I think that explain the dark apierence.
At that time I had difficulties to concentrate, because of Tabanidae.

greeting robert,
