Hi Markus This is certainly a Neoitamus, but it looks like the third species - cothurnatus. The bristles on the front and mid femora appear to be white (compare the pictures of cyanurus and socius you posted last week). Also the hind basitarsus is extensively orange (compare again, and you will see the difference - but beware - cyanurus can sometimes have yellowish basitarsi too). Stubbs also mentions a difference in the length of the hind basitarsus. N.cothurnatus is supposed to have a shorter basitarsus than cyanurus, but this is not apparent from your pictures. You're certainly having a good year for asilids!

Hi Markus I'm sorry, but it's "Ooops" time for me. I think I got this one wrong. The ovipositor shape is not quite right for Neoitamus (the segments should be longer). I think it may be Neomochtherus geniculatus instead. (This would also explain why the hind basitarsus was too long.) Perhaps one of the asilid experts would like to comment?
