Hello, This species is unknown to me. ID will be very much appreciated. It is from South East Turkey and flight time in April. Thanks a lot. Muhabbet Edited by Cesa on 15-12-2009 22:30 |

Ante Vujic is the one you should communicate with, on Merodon. He's writing the revision. |

I have just read his Merodon revision of Spain that in 2007 published and found his e-mail. I will write to him; perhaps I have a chance for the specific name. I would like to place this species in the Gallery of Diptera.info with pleasure. Thanks for your information. Muhabbet |

This characteristic looking species may be well identifiable with Sack maybe? |

I have sent a message to Dr. Vujic. Have you a copy (pdf) Sack's publication? |

No, I don't unfortunately. Just a paper copy. But maybe if I find time one of these days, I could copy the Merodon part for you. Would you be so kind to send me an email on this, just to remind me? You have my address... |

Besides, you can't do without the following publications I think: Hurkmans, W. (1987) Merodon telmateia, a new hoverfly from Turkey (Diptera: Syrphidae). Entomol.Ber. (Amst), 47: 119-121. Hurkmans, W. (1988) Ethology and ecology of Merodon in Turkey. (Diptera: Syrphidae). Entomologische Berichten, Amsterdam, 48: 107-114. Hurkmans, W, (1993) A Monograph of Merodon (Diptera: Syrphidae). Pt.1. Tijdschr. Ent., 136: 147-234. Hurkmans, W. & Hayat, R. (1997) Ethology and ecology of Merodon (Diptera, Syrphidae) in Turkey II : descriptions of new species and notes on other syrphid flies. Dipt.Digest, 3: 62-79. Edited by Andre on 16-12-2009 00:19 |

I think there are more than 20 species of Merodon in Turkey and in the coming season, we have to spare much time for them. |

Snezana Radenkovic identified this one as probably female of M. quadrinotata Sack, 1931(Known from Iran and Turkey)... Amazing species...
