Asilid Neoitamus cyanurus?
blowave
Hello,

This was on my windowsill near Lincoln UK on 8th July 2009. N. cothurnatus is the only other Neoitamus specie we have here but it is rarer. I have found pics of both but I can't see the difference, is it possible to say which this is?

Neoitamus cothurnatus looks to have a very small distribution much more in the south, but I have other insects which are here and should not be according to distribution maps.Wink

Any help much appreciated.

4 pics, but I have more similar. If required I can crop to a closer area.

Hi,

N. cyanurus and N. cothurnatus cannot be separated by the mean of a picture. The completely dark front metatarsus makes it more likely that this is a cyanurus.

Greetings, Danny

Hi Danny,

Thank you! I had noticed the yellow on the front metatarsus of Neoitamus cothurnatus but wasn't sure if it was variable.

As N. cothurnatus is not likely anyway, I will mark mine as Neoitamus cyanurus. There are no pics in the gallery of a female, I wonder if it would be acceptable to put some in as Neoitamus cf. cyanurus?

Greetings, Janet Smile
