Neuroptera- Sialis lutaria ?
bonitin
Hi, Smile

I was wondering if this is the Common Alderfly Sialis lutaria ?
I have two of these in my folders, but this one somehow looks different;
Its head and neck look less hairy and the wings look shorter, darker too.
I also see a kind of brownish colar around its neck just under the head, perhaps it's a just a gender difference..
Any help very much appreciated! Smile

this is not Neuroptera. It belongs to the Megaloptera order, now.
The Megaloptera were formerly considered part of a group then called
Neuroptera, together with lacewings and snakeflies.

It is Sialis. For species I do not know.

Thanks Jorge for that info! Smile
Still wondering though if this is the common Alder Fly..

jorgen
The other Belgian species are very rare and associated with clean streams. I thought that they can only be distinguished by examination of the genitals. So, probably it is Sialis lutaria, but Sialis cf. lutaria is in fact beter.

Thanks Jorgen! Smile
I see you're from Belgium too!
I found it in the local Nature Reserve, the Bourgoyen in Gent.
No clean streams there so I suppose it must be the Common Alderfly Sialis lutaria then..
