Sarcophaga maritinia
theluggage
Hi All

I am an intern starting out my first research project for forensic entomology and I am going to be looking at the above-mentioned species of fly, on which there is absololutely no published data on the web, and as far as i know has only ever been named. Has anyone ever come accross this species of flesh fly and could they share where they found info or found the actual fly?

Thanks
Crys

Could it be that the name should be maritima Engel, 1925? What info do you already have? As you start a project on the forensic part there must be some info you have. Is it just unpublished records? Where abouts is the species found (locations, substrates, etc.).

Hi Paul

Yes you were right, Its info on S. maritima i was looking for, I had misread my Mentor's handwriting and he had already told me it would be very difficult to find info on the fly that I thought the fact that i wasnt finding anything at all "maritinia" was not unusual. We already have a culture of the fly in the labs, and are going trapping for more next week. There is a paper in which the fly is described (that i have not been able to access) http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/122203020/abstract. As for its forensic entomolgy applications... well my mentor just wants to know more about it and three others that i will be expected to work on this year.

thanks for your help Smile
