Hello,

Could anyone confirm (or object to) T.sudeticus ?
Any other suggestions ?

woah!
So black and white, it is T. rectus, a species from France and Spain (mainly).
One of the most beautiful horseflies, in my opinion.

What makes it different from T.sudeticus, and visible on a photograph ? Forgive my question, as my entomological knowledge is very limited !

Have a look at the gallery.
T. sudeticus is more reddish on abdomen. It does have the central triangles, however, the lateral spots are lacking in sudeticus.

Well, it is difficult to see in the picture mentioned.
Sudeticus is really reddish on sides of abdomen, in most cases this is quite obvious.
