Symplecta (Limoniidae) ?
Kahis
HI!

It is my turn to ask for help. I do not as a rule take Tipulids (sensu lato), but every now and then I collect some, just to get a feeling for the various families. As far as I can tell - which is not far at all - this is a species of Symplecta. Can anybody tell me which species? Collected from a streamside, late July, southern Finland.

Hi Kahis
The additional cross-vein connecting R3 and R4 suggests Symplecta hybrida, but I don't have a specimen or figure to check the genitalia. They look similar to, but certainly different from S. stictica.

Hi.

A send photo and the abdomen in alcohol to Jukka Salmela, a finnish expert on Limonidae. His comment: probably S. chosenensis (Alex.), new for northern Europe!Shock We are now working to confirm this record.
