I thought the detail of this photo was interesting enough to post, even though it is not dipteran. You don't often get such a clear view of how the male claspers operate. I have identified these as Platycnemis pennipes White legged Damselflies. The picture was taken by my husband on 5 August 2006, on the river Claise near our newly purchased house in Indre et Loire, France. And yes - the quality and quantity of the local invertebrate population did influence our decision ![]() If anyone can tell me the distribution of the other two species of Platycnemis in France I would be grateful.
