I have never seen it before. Found in old collection. Nothing except "from wood. May". I think it is the genus Lipsothrix (Limoniidae). Thoracal spiracles unique. Edited by Cranefly on 25-03-2010 17:15 |

I would say Lipsothrix too, for is has the unique cup-shaped thoracic spiracles. Also it is one of the few wood-inabiting Limoniidae. larvae are also very peculiar: thin larvae with a swollen thorax and with abdominal segments 2-7 with dorsal and ventral creeping welts. These creeping welts can also be seen in the pupa. They probably need it for locomotion inside the dead wood or under de bark of submerged wood. |
