Does any member of Diptera Info happen to be sitting nicely and comfortably beside a good reference series of the muscid Phaonia canescens Stein? It is a species only recently recorded from Finland but not present in museum collections here. And now I've got a male specimen which is quite near in genitals but two details don't fit particularly well with Gregor et al´s description (and also Lindner is very scant with words as to this species): - tibiae clear yellow (should be dark/brownish yellow) - prealar just a little more than half as long as dorcocentrals (should be as long) Maybe I'm being too exact here, but yet these details bother... |

I would not recognise it if it hit me in the face...

Probably would not feel it either.
