Nope, not a Volucella! Congratulations, you've caught the only species of the Nearctic genus Copestylum that occurs in Europe. It's name is Copestylum melleum, and it was somehow introduced from the Americas to the Canaries. The second specimen is a Eumerus, probably E. purpurariae! Well, the difference is minor, because the genera are very close, sometimes Copestylum is regarded as Volucella. Difference lies in the hairyness of the anterior anepisternum I believe...in Volucella haired, in Copestylum not! Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |
