I've seen this in one of the last days of April. Serra da Arr?bida, mountains at the shore, south of Lisbon (Portugal) The photo was taken with arms partially streched out and spying at the camera viewfinder for focusing from some 30cms away ... the fly was just too far ![]() I don't real know empidids ... the only feature that would make me be more sure of it would be the eye nick, if I could see it. Then I know they have much less bristles than asilids and not beard, maybe a rigid proboscis. Rest assured, it is Empis. With my scant knowledge of the fauna of the Iberian Peninsula I will make no guess of the species.
