Large fly from Australia
Graeme Cocks
This huge fly, 20mm long was caught in the house at light during the day. There is only one every year, so it does seem an aweful pity to kill it.
Townsville, Australia. Family please?

I'd prefer Rutiliini in Tachinidae.

The prettiest ones around.

Very nice indeed ... I wasn't sure what it might be but it did look very calliphorid-like ... needs lots of specimens Grin

Wohoo!! Grin I have pinned-out all the tachs you sent in your last parcel ... most are very small siphoniines (so going to be nigh impossible to identify) but there was one Prosena, which is certainly more do-able Grin

Hello there, I realise this is an old thread but I came accross it while trying to identify the same fly.
Was anyone able to come to a conclusion?
Such a beautiful large fly. It was flying in and out of my garden this afternoon, north of Brisbane, QLD. Thankyou Smile

Rutilia is a very difficult genus and I have only limited experience.
If you collect one and send it over, I can get you an ID.
Otherwise ... not, alas.

Zeegers thanks for that, I wasn’t able to get it. I’m hoping it will fly in again one day. I was very curious to know what it was as it was so large and loud!

If you do, send me a PM !
