the biggest Asilid I ever saw - Dasypogon?

Hi,
Today I met a giant Asilid on a dry meadow (btw we have only dry meadows due to the lasting heat wave). The impressive black beast measured 3 cm at least, may be more. As to the "claw" at the fore tibiae I guess Dasypogon, but help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

this is indeed a Dasypogon diadema, if the picture was taken in Germany.
Do you have the excact location ?

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
