Bactromyia aurulenta?
walwyn
I took this photo on 24th August at Draycote Meadows Warwickshire. I think its Bactromyia aurulenta but would like a confirmation from the experts.

Hi Walwyn.
I'm not expert, but I'm almost sure it isn't Bactromyia aurulenta.
My test, fly looks as Exorista again.

I'd guess Exorista too, just from the photo. Question to Walwyn - when keying it you should pretty easily get to couplet 112 in Belshaw's key (bare arista & eyes, bare vein R1 and along r4+5 to rm etc) - you should have gone pst there on your way to Bactromyia. So, do you think it has some black hairs behind the head, on top?

Nope, but then I don't have Belshaw's key (as yet).

Thanks.

It's well worth the investment of a few quid. When you get a copy just remember to update it from our Tachinid Recording Scheme website (http://tachinidae...). You'll find changes to allow for the additional species since 1993 and margin notes to help you make sense of the key Smile

Yep I've placed an order.

Thanks.

I agree with Nikita
Looks quite like Exorista subgenus Adenia (= rustica-group)
