Good evening. This nice fly was crossing my way (hairs )in a wet nature forest reserve. The name was found by comparing photos, but there is no shure identification yet. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance. Frank#6124 Germany / Mecklenburg: Dobbin, Forest Barkhorst, VI.2004

This is Lipoptena - the Deer Ked, probably L. cervi, but there are other species in central Europe, so I can't be certain.

The date clearly suggests Lipoptena fortisetosa, a remarkably small fly. (but I can't tell the size sufficiently, it looks small indeed). L. fortisetosa is known from the forests in the Alps and Boehmerwald, possibly Harz as well. L. cervi has period of flight august - octobre. Theo Zeegers |

I forgot: In the wet forest of Mecklenburg you can find a lot of nordic beetle species and a lot of beetle species you can find only on mountains in the south (called "boreomontan" in the old literature). |

Well, L. fortisetosa is more an eastern species. To the west to Bayern, so a record from Mecklenburg is good but not amazing. Theo |
