In another sample of a high intertidal saltmarsh along the Scheldt estuary (Belgium), I found besides Ceratopogonidae and 2 Limoniidae (see picture) another larva (the one on top of the photo). Perhaps a four-lobbed Limoniidae or Dolichopodidae? Any idea?, Jan |

Dolichopodidae, probably Hydrophorus

I don't think we should commit into any genus name, since the larvae of some genera of dolichopodids living in this habitat are still completely unknown. But Hydrophorus isn't a bad bet.

As Kahis says, we can't be certain, even with a specimen - many of the larvae of different genera look very similar, so until they are all described, we can only say "possibly" or "probably"!
