[Chaetorellia jaceae] Chaetorellia ID
Arthropa
Hello everyone,

Such a long time since I had some good time here... I wish I have time enough to take part in all threads on all forums I enjoy... arthropa.free.fr/images/css-noir/sm-oops.gif

I'd like to have your opinions about this Tephritidae I found in Bartr?s (65, France) on 31th July 2005, in some waste ground.
I think it is some Chaetorellia sp, and I would like to know first if I'm right, and second if it is possible or not to determine species just on photo (Zooms available on request).
Length was 4.5 mm without oviscapt, and 7 mm with.

Hi Martha,

1. You're right, it is Chaetorellia.
and 2. yes it is possible to identify from these pictures: C. jaceae.

Thanks, John ! Smile

That was indeed my opinion compared to pictures from the photo gallery, but since I don't know what other Chaetorellia species look like, I wasn't sure of anything.

But please tell me more : what are the visible criterions to say it is jaceae ?

Four in stead of five pairs of black dots on the thorax (rules out C. loricata) and the oviscapus longer than the length of the last four abdominal segments (rules out C. acrolophi).
