An easy one occasionally - I hope nevertheless.
Thanks in advance

In Central Europe this must be one of the commonest tiger crane fly. At least in Hungary, over 90% of all Nephrotoma sp looked like this one. They are nice, but so far I could not yet put a species name on this, there might be several similar species.

Thanks for your comments. I don?t think so, Gabor! The common Nephrotoma species are black and light yellow - see my uploads to the gallery here. This one is orange and the biotop let me hope to have somesthing special (one of the top biotopes for endagered species in this region): http://www.koleop...exk05.html Or, nevertheless, normally? Best regards Frank

I thought your image shows the same species as this image.

My impression is that the head and the abdomen always contain orange colour in this species, but elsewhere this crane fly can show any hue between light yellow to dark orange.

There is an other common Nephrotoma species, which is predominantly yellow with some dark markings, I think you mean something like this species.

In Hungary this latter species is scarcer.
