Platystomatidae? from lowland rainforest, Ecuador
pbertner
Hopefully looking for an Id. for these guys. With their wings folded over to contour their bodies, are these mimicking beetles?

There aren't very many neotropical platystomatids. This is more likely a ulidiid along the lines of Stictomyia sp. Yes, flies like these with bent wings are often considered to be mimicking beetles.

Certainly not a Ulidiidae. I'd say, an ephydrid or a lauxaniid, judging from its arista.

Interesting! I wonder what it is, then. Maybe Gaimari would know.

Like Valery said, this looks likely to be an ephydrid. It's not a lauxaniid (as much as I'd like it to be!).

If anyone is still interested, that's Notacanthina pendicornis (Cresson, 1934), Ephydridae (Gymnomyzinae, Gastropini), these very photos were used in Zatwarnicki & Hagenlund, 2017 (Annales Zoologici, 67(4): 837-858)
While others can't climb, using infinite pains,
I, gravity turning to jest,
Ascend, with all ease, perpendicular planes,
Rough or smooth, just as pleases me best.
