Here is another mystery Hymeoptera circa 1st July 2011 Grassland / Tree Line Weather Hot and Fine UK . I havwe sopme theories on this one buit will await further opiion . Thank you all in advance

One of the common Ichneumonini - I always put these down as Amblyteles sp. but I am probably wrong as there are a lot of very similar species and the British keys are really horrible to use Wink

If Camile says that it is Ichneumon sp. then forget Amblyteles Wink Camile is saying that it is the genus Ichneumon, not just "an ichneumon wasp" Smile

One of our biggest problems is the state of the keys for UK Ichneumon/Amblyteles ... they are very hard to work through and so there are probably a lot of incorrect identifications out there - perhaps even the majority are wrong. It's a real pity because they are so common and so easy to find in the countryside in summer.
