I think this has to Laphria ephippium, male. I hope someone will confirm this.

Hi Reinoud,
thanks for your opinion. If no other expert contradict I'll take it as a Laphria ephippium, male Smile

Cheers, Christian

Sorry, I don't agree. This is really a dark coloured specimen of Laphria flava, especially the dark hair on the mesonotum. For comparison with L. ephippium please have a look http://www.robber...er004.html and the key http://www.robber...phria.html. All three images show yellow hair on the tergites, which are unknown in L. ephippium. Yours

Again very informative. Texts are clear "Tergites with dark brown to black hairs" but the picture of Geller-Grimm is not so clear. It looks to me that L ephippium has also reddish hairs on abdomen just less than L flava. L ephippium is not known from the Netherlands so i have no excperience with it. Although i have never seen such a dark L. flava yet. Probably have to see L. ephippium fresh and collected to gain experience.

Hi Dysmachus and Reinoud,

thanks for your attempt to identify this Laphria and special thanks for the link to the key! I have checked the hairs on abdomen on the original pics and would agree with Dysmachus that there are yellow hairs, especially on the first tergites below the wings. Thus it is a Laphria flava.

Cheers, Christian
