Black "blood" on Scathophaga?
Andre Jas
Hi,

This Scatho was disturbed by me, eating one of the Sepsidae. His legs and abdomen are partly black. Is that just mud, scat or is it coming from the Sepsidae? Or maybe something else?

Hi Andre.
Yes, it is Scothophaga stercoraria, the most easy character to be almost sure is blackish antennae.
I doubt that prey is Sepsidae. In addition to fly (prey) itself, Sepsidae are smart beast, I don't know why, may be smell, but another predator flies never attack Sepsidae (in exgauster, for example).
