Mysterious creature at lights, French Guiana
Stephen
Not even sure of the Order here, it looks like Hymenoptera but reminds me of other Orders too, even Mantodea.

At lights, Montagne de Kaw, French Guiana, 31 May 2011. Open area surrounded by forest.

It seems Mantodea... really seems Amorphoscelididae...

I agree with Mantodea, but may be a member of Mantoidae (http://bugguide.n...view/12580) - or it is in Amorphoscelididae like Jorge said....

Jorge, Matt, thank-you. With your help on the ID I was able to figure out which specialist to send the photo to. Julio Rivera, an expert on Neotropical Mantodea, was kind enough to ID this insect as a Mantoida sp. He also gave me the name of another expert to send it to, and I will do that. Thanks again!
