Sepsidae fly
jorgemotalmeida
Hi flyforum

I'm almost sure that this is Sepsidae (perhaps Ulidiidae can be too... please let me know how can I distinguish between these two families... Ulidiidae seems to have an acute abdomen in its extremity?...)

I took in last week in Silgueiros - Viseu above a grapefruit.

Really, the fly seems to be in Europa moon! Smile (take a look here:

Hi Jorge,

I have an image (don't know how I got it), but it's of an unidentified Sepsis species. And that looks exactly like yours. So I'd say Sepsis sp.

It is a sepsid, but I cannot see any dark marking in the wing so I would not call it Sepsis.

Wellcome back with nice fly Jorge.
Well, it is male, so we have to find species level ID.
There are two possible candidate as far as I know Sepsis lateralis (a Sepsis without black apical spot on the wing) or Austalosepsis niviepennis. Both species are possible in Portugal.
On one hand it seems that cells br and bm on the wing fused, which lead us to Austalosepsis niviepennis.
On the other hand f1 and t1 and general appearence are for Sepsis lateralis.
I think that more probable that cells bm, br only looks fused and it is
Sepsis lateralis.

I send fly to Andrey Ozerov.
His reply -
"I think S. lateralis"

so, is it confirmed that this fly is Sepsis lateralis?
IF the answer is right... this must go to the gallery. Wink If not, I will try to take more detailed photos when I see again the fly...

Hi Jorge.
If Andrey Ozerov think that it is Sepsis lateralis, who can disagree with him?Grin
