Pimpline?
ChrisR
Hi,

This photo was taken by Nick Bowels in the UK and is used with his permission. He took it recently when he saw this wasp "prowling around a Red Admiral larval tent on 12th November". It's also pretty amazing that Red Admirals have larvae this late - but that's another story! Grin

I am pretty sure, from the ovipositor and general appearance, that it is a pimpline ichneumonid but I couldn't take it much further than that due to the lack of focus on the photo but I just wondered if anyone has any ideas? Smile

Thanks, Chris R.

Pimpla instigator also parasitises V. atalanta and a closer match than Camille's very question- marked Theronia atalanta I think(No certainty here in Ireland either).I'll try and get to look at some specimens later. Robert

I do not know Pimplinae well!
Theronia atalantae is in the very close United Kingdom!
Pimpla instigator called Pimpla rufipes in Taxapad 2005 is not quoted of Vanessa atalantae but well of other Nymphalidae, it is all that I can say! Wink
