This isn't an identification query as such, because I've had the specimen identity conformed during the latest meeting of the Lancashire & Cheshire Entomological Society, but since there appears to be nowhere else to put the record, I'm putting it here.  I was taking part in a moth trapping session with two colleagues from the Society, namely Paul Hillyer and Jeff Clarke, and during the moth trapping session, two interesting ichneumon wasps were among the specimens caught by the moth trap. I took the specimen home with me, intending to release it the following day after photographing it, but unfortunately the specimen died whilst awaiting release. So, I decided to keep the specimen to add to the collection of Liverpool Museum, and serendipitously, it turned out that my doing so was a good idea, because not only was the specimen identified at the meeting, but according to the individual who identified it, my specimen constitutes only the second UK record of this species! Record data as follows: Hepiopelmus variegatorius, recorded at Ordnance Survey Grid Reference SJ508816, 30/09/2011, between 20:30 and 23:30 BST. Kloets and Hincks, Smith, Morley, Perkins, Stephens, Taxapad.... common in UK! Hosts bupalus, Dendrolimus and Hyphantria! Camille cthirion |

Ah, I've been told that here in the UK, its principal hosts are Spilosoma luteum and Spilosoma lubricipeda, both of which are much more commonly encountered in my locality than any of the hosts you've cited above. |
