Prey of Cicindela campestris
crex
From midwest Sweden 2006-07-12 (YYYY-MM-DD). What can be said about the prey, a fly? I know the images suck, but give it a try Smile The Cicindela campestris is a real monster with incredible jaws that trashes the victim to bits fast.

The wing venation is visible. It seems to have a snout-like form of the face (if it's not an illusion or the beetle transformed it). Long bristles on thorax and abdomen. Tiny feet. Does this all point towards a (small) Tachinid?

Thank you Jorge and Kahis. As Kahis is an experienced flyguy I put it down as Calliphoridae sp and maybe maybe Pollenia sp.

Hi Crex - You can remove the "maybe's".
The wavy golden thoracic hairs, broad cheeks, bent vein M can only be Pollenia.
