An Asilid Hymenopteran mimic from Cyprus.

As indicated in my previous posting I have recently returned from northern Cyprus where this little stunner was among the flies I managed to photograph. At a first glance I thought it was going to be a Hymenopteran but with only one pair of wings and halteres what a brilliant mimic it is. The specimen which I have retained is about 8mm long. It was found on 30 March near Avtepe. Any suggestions on identification would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks Alan Edited by Alan Outen on 03-04-2012 19:55 |

Looks like Asilidae to me - change the title to attract the experts ![]() Manager of the UK Species Inventory in the Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity at the Natural History Museum, London. |

Maybe more an Asilid fanatic than an expert, but i think this could well be P. mixtus
