My first attempt to get help here... Anyone who could give help where to look for a name on the fly on the attached image? It is taken in Sweden in september 2005. I can add 100% cropped images of specific body parts if that helps.. Thanks /Krister Edited by Collembola on 30-12-2006 23:00 |

It's often helpful to see the wing venation. I fear this could be the difficult Anthomyiidae family, but it might also be Muscidae or Tachinidae. Let's hear the pro's ... Nice to see yet another Swede here!  |

Several views (anterior, dorsal and lateral) is the best way to optimize the chances of a positive identifiction. Anthomyiidae and their lookalikes is often hard to identify, if not impossible (at least with todays knowledge it seems). Not all are possible to get to species level, some can be identified to genus and some only to family, For a newbie like myself it's almost impossible to tell which ones is possible to iD and which isn't. ... and then it is important who has the time to examine your photos |
