Xylota?
Marion Friedrich
It looks like Xylota florum in the gallery, but there are similar looking species. Can somebody confirm or correct?

Thanks, Marion

Stubbs and Falk (in British Hoverflies) say:

"... X. florum can be readily distinguished from the coeruleiventris/jakutorum pair ... In the female the spots on tergites 2 and 3 are orange, and the grey dust spots on the frons are pointed towards the middle and do not meet."

"Another narrow-bodied European species, meigeniana Stackelberg 1964, could easily be confused with florum. ... In the female [meigeniana], the hind femur has only short erect white semi-dorsal hairs which are confined to a small area near the base (in florum there are additional longer erect hairs extending along the basal quarter or more). ..."

Thank you for the key, tristram.
It is a pity that I do not have additional pictures. The spots on the frons do not meet, but I canĀ“t see enough to evaluate the hairs on the hind femur.
