This photo was taken on the trail between Kamikochi and Mt. Yarigatake in the Nagano prefecture of Japan in August 2005. Can anyone ID the fly, please?

It isn't Chrysotosum. It reminds me of Sericomyia but I have no idea what genera I do not know might occur in Japan.

It's a species of Blera, a female. It looks a bit like Blera japonica, but it's more likely another species, so female Blera sp.! Greetings Greetings, Gerard Pennards |
