Collecting in Brazil seems to be restricted to people who can obtain permits backed by scientific institutions. For a serious Dipterist it might not be too big a difficulty but they'd probably have to do some networking in the museums and research institutes to get the contacts to give them the necessary support. Export would undoubtedly be an issue too.

Collecting in Brazil is exactly as described by Chris.
I searched for photos of Toxonomerus, but in none of the pictures I found, was a fly like that which is above.

One expert on tropical Syrphidae is F. Christian Thompson at USNM: http://entomology...sonFC.html. Among other publications, he coauthored a paper on distinguishing the "larger" Toxomerus.
