Limoniidae 1->Austrolimnophila ochracea with aberration
nielsyese
Collected in a malaise trap the 6th of July 2008 in Sint Philipsland, the Netherlands. It is Limoniidae, I think subfamily Limnophilinae. The crossvein near the wing tip is confusing me. Can anybody help?

Does the other wing also have an extra crossvein? Crane flies often have extra veins in one wing.

You are right John, it is an aberration. The other vein doesn't have the crossvein.Smile

In America I would suggest Austrolimnophila, distinguished from Limnophila by "MA (anterior branch of medius, arculus) lacking" in Alexander's terminology.

I'd say a female Austrolimnophila ochracea.
