Surinamese Lauxaniidae: Setulina geminata (to be confirmed)
Auke
I found this specimen which looks somewhat like a Curtonotidae to me, but its pronotum is much lower. What could it be?

Suriname, Paramaribo, Weg naar Zee. III-2013. In secondary forest.

Thanks in advance,

Scarabaeoid

Not sure of Curtonotidae?

Lauxaniidae or Drosophilidae?

Auke
Well, the whole point of the questionmark was that I don't know.Wink

But thanks to your suggestions I checked both the Drosophilidae and the Lauxaniidae, and it actually looks quite a lot like Setulina. The S. cf. Geminata in the gallery has a different wing pattern, but when I use Google it appears the species has actually two different wing patterns, one of which looks remarkably like the one of my specimen. I'll change the name for now, but I hope someone is willing and able to confirm this tentative ID.

Best regards,

Scarabaeoid

Setulina have hairs on Basal part of the radial vein, one is not going to see these in a photograph. But Setulina geminata is cosmopolitan in the tropical Americas, and looks much like yours.

Maybe Steve Giamari would know this species from sight?

A little kick in hope of ID confirmation.

Could someone please confirm Setulina, and possibly the species? My photo is now the first picture when searching for the name Setulina geminata in Google, and I suppose it could cause additional misidentifications if it has actually a different ID.

Thanks, Auke
