Leptogastrinae, Small Afrotropical species.
Will van Niekerk
Only one angle for this one - having taken what images I could while its blade of grass blew in the wind, I tried to stabilise the grass and in doing so scared it clean away.

At the back of the Lusaka Showgrounds, Lusaka City, Lusaka Province, Zambia.

Dry scrub, near to livestock holding areas, urban gardens, office blocks... well connected.

smallish, probably around 12mm long?

[EDIT - changed title from 'Lasiocnemis??? Small...' to 'Leptogastrinae...', based on subfamily advised by Quaedfliegh]

(As the physics of the image above is troubling me, please note that the fly was in fact hanging beneath the tip of the grass, not sticking out at a bizarre and energetically expensive angle. )

The fly belongs to the Leptogastrinae. I dont know much about afrotropical species and dont have a clue : )

Thank you! Leptogastrinae was more than I knew for it, so I'll update the title and put a note on the file, for now.

Thanks again.
