 Big tipulid larvae in a stream

Hallo! In April I found these big larvae in a bavarian forest-stream. She was under a stone, not completely under water. When she was strechted, the length was 3cm. She has burrowed itself. On the picture you can see the larvae, right on the top the end, and right below the head of the animal. Family Tipulidae? Is it possible to determine it? Perhaps because of the habitat? yes, most likely Tipulidae but I cannot decide whether the posterior stigma are surrounded by 5 (Limoniidae) or 6 (Tipulidae) lobes. Although the size rules out many Limoniidae, but not all. As there are more than 2 lobes, Pedicia or any other Pediciidae is out of the question. However, if this is a Tipulidae, than identification to species level (of Tipula sp.) is almost impossible without studying some details. At least a detailed photo of the anal lobes are necessary. |

Thank you for the informations atylotus! Unfortunately I only have these pictures, where we can see the details. One more picture shows the stretched larvae, but there are no more details to see, than in the big picture. Dennis |
