wow! Great fly!!
I wish to see the famous Liphistiidae spider from china. Grin If is it possible take photos to the spiders and submit them in Other insects, spiders section. It would be very great!

-- China will have 2 total solar eclipses - in next year and the more long eclipse of century: almost 7 minutes in 2009!!!! lucky!

PS. I am not sure about the proposed identification. Some characters do *not* match the description of C. triceratops. But the genus is probably correct. So let's wait the the real tephritid specialists of the forum before moving on.

This indeed magnificent fly is a Cornutrypeta, and it might well be C. triceratops. But it's difficult to tell from this photo's. For a possitive ID I need to know the colour of the fifith tarsomere and a good view of the side of the head, in order to be able to see how many orbital setae it has (not the extraordinary large frontal setae).

Well in this case all characters indicate C. triceratops, though the wing pattern is different, so it might well be a new species....
