Shore fly?
robert
Hello guys Smile,

I would like to identify this species. Found in NE England, lay eggs in decomposing seaweed and it occurs in numbers. Size about 6-7mm.

I would be grateful with the genus level. Many thanks,

Robert

Yes, I guess I could send you few... But I need instructions as I have never done it before!

Paul Beuk
If it is dry and you are sending it in an evelope, make certain it cannot be squashed (use something hollow but not too big) and use something to prevent it from bumping around (do not uuse cottonwool for dry specimens as they get stuck in it; beter use some kitchen paper or toilet paper). In (small) parcels you need to add some shock absorbants (even crumpled paper can do).

What do you think if I put them into a 1.5ml eppendorf with 70% ethanol? Would it be ok?
Edited by robert on 23-06-2013 11:59

Paul Beuk
Sure, but make certain it is well filled (no or very little air) and cannot be suqashed during transport. I have received several blotched envolopes over the years where eppendorfs did not survive the stamps...
