Epiphragma ocellaris (Limoniidae) with phoretic psudoscorpion
Sundew
Hi,
About five weeks ago I was shooting photographs in an old beech wood in southern Brandenburg. I met a female Epiphragma ocellaris that was checking dead wood, and it became apparent that the poor little thing had only a hind leg left on its right side. A red pseudoscorpion clung to the remaining coxa of the fore leg. It is well-known that pseudoscorpions grab hold to insect parts with their pincers to be carried to new locations. However, are the pincers strong enough to amputate legs? Or did the little arachnid come across a disabled fly just by chance? And is it identifiable at least to genus? Lamprochernes species are said to be phoretic, but they are not the only ones as far as I know. I would like to show you some pics.
Regards, Sundew

This is the "couple".
