Definitely a tachinid Smile Do you have any other angles - from the side maybe? It reminds me of Phyllomya volvulus but it would be early for that species. Maybe Mintho rufiventris ... but i don't see any red-sides to the abdomen either. Might have to wait for Theo on this Wink

The topcell is stalked and the bend in vein M has an appendix, so this all fits with Mintho rufiventris.
Rather dark, I agree with that

Nice unusual Mintho - would be nice to see if it has any red on the side, or maybe it's just a trick of the angle.

Theo: I saw the petiole, and 2 thick dark bars on the anterior which pointed me towards Mintho ... would be nice if I could see them in England more often. Sad Maybe they will be commoner with global warming? Smile Talking of which, I had Siphona geniculata yesterday - almost 1 month earlier than suggested in Belshaw Grin

Concerning Mintho:
check for gardens and on windows!!
There are remarkably often encoutered on the inside of large windows. Mainly in July - August.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
